About the Kitchen

Compared to some of my prior abodes, my current kitchen could be considered spacious. There isn't a lot of counter space though and most unfortunately we have an electric stove top. Gas is just so far superior, but hey, we make do. Also, our oven barometer doesn't work. And I don't have a lot of appliances so I improvise a lot.

Some of my favorite items include my $3 salad spinner from Ikea (I hate wet watery lettuce), my garlic crusher, a good knife (essential), and good pots and pans. By 'good' pots and pans I don't necessarily mean expensive, I just mean those that fit my needs. For example, I roast vegetables a lot and like them to brown so I bought an inexpensive non-stick roasting tin that I use quite frequently.

Something I don't have: measuring cups. Well, I own them but they were lost in a move and I'm not sure where they currently reside. I have the 1/4 cup for some reason which I use for baking, but for everything else I eyeball it. I also have an ceramic yogurt cup that I'm pretty sure is about 4/5 of a cup so I just fill it generously and call it a day. Point being, you don't need expensive tools or exact measurements to make great food.
